Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what data Nerune (“we”, “us”) collects when you use the Nerune iOS app and this website, why we collect it, and how it is stored and protected.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address and a hashed password, created when you sign up. We never see or store your plain-text password.
- Fragrance profile: fragrances you like or dislike, your preferred notes, accords and families, budget range, preferred occasions and style preferences — used to personalize recommendations.
- Collection data: fragrances you mark as owned, wishlisted or tested, plus any personal notes you add to them.
- Journal entries: what you wore, when, for which occasion, the weather at the time (if you choose to log it), and how it performed.
- Location and weather: if you grant location permission, we use your approximate location to fetch local weather for the “What Should I Wear Today” recommendation. This is used at the time of the request and is not retained beyond what's needed to generate that day's recommendation.
- Usage data: anonymized behavioral data such as pages viewed and recommendations opened or dismissed, used to improve the recommendation engine.
- Subscription status: whether you have an active Premium subscription, managed via RevenueCat and Apple's In-App Purchase system.
Third-party services we use
Nerune is built on a small number of trusted service providers, each with a specific role:
- Supabase — hosts our database and handles account authentication. Your account data, fragrance profile, collection and journal entries are stored on Supabase's infrastructure.
- RevenueCat — manages Premium subscription status and receipt validation. RevenueCat receives your subscription and purchase status; it does not receive your fragrance data.
- OpenAI — powers optional AI-assisted parts of the recommendation engine (for example, phrasing a daily pick or a layering suggestion). Requests sent to OpenAI include only the structured fragrance data needed to generate that specific recommendation — never your email, password or raw account details.
- Apple — processes all Premium subscription payments through the App Store's In-App Purchase system. We never see or store your payment card details.
How we use your data
We use your data to operate the app's core features: building and refining your fragrance profile, generating daily and occasion-based recommendations, powering the Layering Lab, and tracking your collection and journal. Anonymized usage data helps us improve recommendation quality over time. We do not sell your personal data.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → Settings → Delete Account). This permanently removes your account, fragrance profile, collection and journal data from our systems.
Your choices
- Location access is optional — the daily weather-based recommendation falls back to a seasonal default if you decline.
- You can edit or clear your fragrance profile at any time from your Profile.
- You can request a copy of your data or ask questions by contacting us below.
Children's privacy
Nerune is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the “last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
